![]() So, the Cowboys will have to get creative in covering Kamara. It appears as though he will be available to play this week and bring life to a struggling Saints offense. In a season muddled with injuries and players leaving in free agency, Kamara is all that is left. Going into week ten, when Kamara was ruled out due to injury, he had accumulated 60% of the team’s rushing attempts, 23% of the receptions, and 33% of their yards. Alvin Kamara is their only weapon at this point and needs to be treated as such. There are 26 players on New Orleans’ active roster, but the defense’s ability to stop the Saints rests on the shoulders of only one player. The Cowboys defense Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images It all rests on the impact of Cooper and Lamb’s return. This is also a matchup where the offense could continue to struggle if the rushing game is completely shut down. The Saints can be a favorable matchup for Dak Prescott to get his squad back on track. Hopefully, the reinforcements that are presumably returning will aid them in regaining consistency. However, the operative word here is “should.” The Dallas offense has been wildly inconsistent after the bye. This is a defense that is allowing over 30 points per game since their starting quarterback was injured. Meaning that explosive receivers such as Michael Gallup and hopefully CeeDee Lamb should be in for a big day.ĭallas should be able to put up points. To illustrate, Marshon Lattimore only allows a 59% completion percentage when targeted, but he is also surrendering nearly 20 yards a reception. While the New Orleans’ corners have done well preventing completions, they tend to allow big plays. Look at the discrepancy in the Saints’ defensive rankings by various outlets: This will be similar to the Buccaneers game, where the Cowboys will take advantage of a weaker coverage unit instead of trying to run against a tough rushing defense. In other words, Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb returning is even more pivotal. It will be challenging for the Cowboys to establish any rushing game, regardless of who is taking the carries.Īnother aspect of this game that we know will be true is that the Saints’ secondary has been underperforming. But the difference between New Orleans and the second-place team in this metric is larger than the difference between the second-place team and the nineteenth ranked rushing defense. The Saints are currently allowing a league-low 3.4 yards per rushing attempt. But there are a few facets of this matchup that we can reasonably expect to happen.įor one, the New Orleans’ run defense is still superb. The truth is that this game could go in a million different directions. There are a lot of aspects in this game that will remain unclear until the final whistle blows. Will both Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb be back? If they are, how much do they help the offense? Does losing Terence Steele impact this game? What has happened to the Saints’ defense since they lost Jameis Winston? The question marks surrounding the Dallas offense against the New Orleans Saints defense makes this exponentially harder to predict. So, what will it take for Dallas to get back on track? The Cowboys offense Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images It is not the game that we expected when the schedule came out, but it is the game we now have. It wouldn’t be a Dallas Cowboys season if not for a bit of drama sprinkled in.Įntering the game as a four-point favorite according to DraftKings Sportsbook, there is optimism the Cowboys can snap their two-game losing streak. Bad news, amidst a downward turn from Dallas after the bye, they are now dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak that will significantly impact Thursday’s game. Good news, the Cowboys are finally done with the AFC West, and four of their remaining six games are against a still-struggling NFC East. ![]() REMEMBER: you will need to make two separate payments per application. Learn more about Retinal Atrophy in Cats Herpes Eye Infection in a Cat There is a huge variety of well balanced cat food available now in flavors to tempt even the pickiest cat Michal input : Taurine deficiency can be caused by feeding a steady diet of canned tuna because your cat likes it. Fortunately most pets who have progressive retinal atrophy adapt very well to blindness because they get to adjust to the blindness gradually and so they can learn to adapt better than a pet who becomes blind suddenly. There is no known treatment for this disorder. ![]() When retinal atrophy is the problem, the usual progression of symptoms noted by the cat owner is dilated pupils > night blindness > total blindness. Progressive retinal atrophy does occur in cats but less commonly than it occurs in dogs. It is really surprising how much better some cats feel after treatment for glaucoma when their owners were not aware that behavioral changes they were seeing (like clinginess or crying a lot) were due to glaucoma. It is worth checking eye pressure to ensure that glaucoma is not present even if the retinal atrophy is complete, because glaucoma is painful. In cats glaucoma can be a very insidious disorder. Unless your cat is being fed a diet low in taurine this is presently an unlikely cause of the degeneration. Taurine deficiency used to be the most common cause of retinal degeneration in cats but once the requirement for higher taurine levels was recognized, this cause became uncommon. High blood pressure usually occurs due to kidney disease or hyperthyroidism, so it is still worth thinking about checking for these disorders and measuring blood pressure and treating any of these conditions if they are present. If complete blindness was present when the pupils were dilated a year ago, it isn't too likely that treatment at this time would make a difference. Mary Glaze spoke at last month and she said she had seen some come back after a month of blindness. While I can't remember a patient who recovered after more than a week of being blind, I was at a seminar on ophthalmology that Dr. If the high blood pressure is treated immediately there is a chance that the subsequent damage can be avoided. I can say this with absolute certainty because I diagnosed this problem in my own dog and immediately took her to an ophthalmologist for confirmation. If this were my cat, I would be asking for referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist for confirmation of the diagnosis of retinal atrophy. I want to get this in first before I go on, in case I forget. Then, outside to exercise, get formed into teams and slaughter each other in what they call contact sports and I considered something along the lines of gladiators trying to kill each other in a pit. The coach, a big, not exactly friendly looking monster, mumble-yelled something to us about how we might want to get supporters, which most of us had no idea what he was talking about. Then we changed into shorts and T-shirts, with sneakers. We dressed out, which was embarrassing, having to strip to our briefs, herded into the stinking, kind of dark, cement floored, feet smelling, crowded locker room, with walls painted a high glossy red and white in prison quality industrial paint. I was a spindly, shy, quiet youngster, still stunned by changing from 1 class of 25 familiar kids all day long to 6 classes of 30 strangers with 7 different teachers and having to run from one end of the school to the other between periods as well as try to jam into the always smoke filled, noisy, kid packed, mosh pit they called the boys bathrooms in order to try to take a pee. Just a little hole.īy this time, poor Jeff was on the shower floor bawling his eyes out and frantically trying to cover himself. Rudimentary testicles yes (he was only 12), but no penis. And we saw why Jeff never wanted to take a shower. I don’t remember what happened after that terribly well, but here’s pretty much what went down: the teacher grabbed Jeff’s towel and gave him a push in the door. Jeff refused, the teacher angered, Jeff cried, the teacher had had enough. (Not easy to do, let me tell you.) And we watched the gym teacher beg, plead, cajole, and coax Jeff in with us. So there we were, thirty naked 12-year-old boys, standing in a room that measured about nine feet square, embarrassed as hell and trying not to touch each other. So he decided to make sure that everybody–including Jeff–took one. It seems marginally possible with specific nylon strings. Some knowledgeable people discussed this on Music.StackExchange. See screenshot below. Tuning nylon strings on a ukulele to the cavaquinho scale apparently exerts dangerous tension as well.Even if you stick with nylon, tuning becomes an issue – see the next point. Nylon strings sound completely different than steel. The general online consensus is that stringing a ukulele with steel will deform or damage it. Steel strings have a much higher amount of tension than nylon when tuned to the same note. These don’t seem significant, but they are. Ukuleles are strung with nylon strings.Ukeleles are tuned gCEA (the first string is a high “g”). The most common tuning for cavaquinhos in Brazilian music is DGBD (from low to high). This is very similar to a soprano-sized ukulele. The scale length of a cavaquinho is around 350 mm (13-14 in). ![]() Here are some of the similarities and differences: They’re widely available at local and online retailers. My second thought was to simply buy a ukulele and re-string/re-tune it to match a cavaquinho. Ask if they have experience working on mandolins and check reviews online to get a better idea. I’m not sure if your local Guitar Center would be able to perform a setup on a cavaquinho. Even though they had not heard of a cavaquinho, I felt confident that they had the skills to fix it. Electric guitars are easy to learn on, as the bridge is easily adjustable, but for an acoustic style instrument, I felt more comfortable paying someone who has years of experience.Ī word about guitar shops – my local guitar shop is a small store that has been in business forever, and has very knowledgeable staff. You can setup your instrument yourself, but it is somewhat of an art – how much to adjust, getting the action low without buzzing, and allowing the wood to acclimate. Unless you’re buying your instrument from a physical shop, I would definitely include the cost of a setup in your budget. I don’t know how cavaquinhos ship in Brazil, but it seems guitars in the US come with a high action, and it’s up to the player to adjust it down. ![]() His advice was that a cheaper instrument could’ve had much worse problems – uneven frets, bowed neck, that would be more difficult to repair. I talked to the guitar technician about how I was a little annoyed that an expensive instrument still needed work done, as I might as well get a cheaper one. Now, they require much less effort to press, and the intonation problems are gone. They also changed the strings – I had purchased a set online, so that was no added cost.īefore, I had to press relatively hard to cleanly fret notes, and found myself gritting my teeth at times. I brought my cavaquinho to my local guitar shop for setup – they charged me $60, which included fret polishing, fretboard oiling, and sanding the underside of the bridge to bring the strings down to the proper height. “Action” refers to how the instrument physically plays, and in particular the height of the strings above the fretboard. This is often caused by action that is too high. In my case, an open string would be in tune, but the octave up (12th fret) was very noticeably sharp. For those unfamiliar with fretted string instruments, intonation refers to the accuracy of the pitch, particularly when the higher frets are played. My instrument had some very bad intonation problems. Although mine was a “factory demo,” I believe this issue may be pretty universal. I originally thought that a pricey instrument would come ready to play out of the box – I was apparently mistaken. I remember seeing Adam Savage, of Mythbusters, talking at a live show about his realization that the ability to become mediocre at many skills is, in itself, a valuable skill.įor those of you just stumbling on my site, thank you for visiting! I feel pretty good about it, given that most of the things we tend to buy in life depreciate horribly. It probably could’ve sold for more, but I felt it was a fair price. I sold it for $350, which is only $60 less than I purchased it for 4 years ago. I initially made a posting on Craigslist, but was contacted by someone out of state to purchase, so I threw it up on Ebay to facilitate the transaction.
